In History we would like the children to develop an understanding of the past and how this impacts their lives today.  We want them to have an understanding of chronology and how the things they are studying fit into a larger picture, and the order in which they occurred.  It is important for the children to understand why things happened and to make connections with similar occurrences throughout history. The concept of social and cultural change is important and to understand how and why these changes took place.  Children will be given opportunities to explore the differences between primary and secondary sources and to question opinion and fact based accounts. This learning will be enriched by trips and visits to places of historical interest and to places offering recreations of the past.  Links with the local history society will provide a rich source of information about local history and how Stapleford fits into a bigger picture historically.
