The children of Stapleford School have shown a real passion and enthusiasm for taking action on environmental issues, both local and global. Because of this, we decided that a separate student council to manage environmental issues was vital, in order that these issues get the focus that they need. Each year group from year 1-6 has 2 representatives who were nominated by their class and attend Eco Council meetings at least twice a half term.

So far the Eco Council have organised, advertised and help run our school Eco Day, raising funds for the WWF Australian Bushfire Appeal – we raised over £300 for this cause alone. The Eco Council, have also discussed and are looking into the possibility of further recycling facilities within the school, and are researching how our playground equipment could be more sustainable, trying to refrain from more plastic entering our environment.

Projects for the future could involve, the ‘Plant a tree’ project from the woodland trust, ‘Wear it Wild day’ for the WWF, ’30 days Wild’ created by the Wildlife Trusts and next year’s ‘Big Garden Birdwatch’ for the RSPB. If you have any environmental issues or projects you wish to share with Eco Council, please feel free to let your class representatives know, or get in touch with Miss Stinton.
