SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)
At Stapleford, spelling is taught both explicitly and in context according to the National Curriculum expectations. From Year 2, our children learn spellings using the The Spelling Book approach by Jane Considine. We immerse ourselves in discussions about spelling rules and patterns, using hypotheses and investigations. We track the tricky parts of the words to help us remember how to spell them.
As the way we are approaching spellings is slightly different this year, we no longer send spelling lists home weekly. Below you will find the High Frequency Words (as well as information about why learning them is useful) and the Statutory Spelling Lists for each year group.
Our grammar and punctuation is taught through specified sessions and within English lessons. Below is a glossary of terms from the National Curriculum.
