Physical Education, Sports and Health
At Stapleford Community Primary School we believe that physical education is an essential part of every child’s educational development. We aim to provide a high quality physical education curriculum that inspires all of our pupils to succeed and enjoy it. We want them to experience competitive sport and other physically demanding activities-some of which will be completely new to them.
We want to provide a range of activities and opportunities for our children to become physically literate and confident, so that their health and fitness is supported and they continue to participate as they become young students/adults.
We aim to give our children the opportunity to compete in sport, either within school at intra-school level, or inter-school sport playing alongside pupils from other schools, or at competition level between schools and at county level.
In addition we aim to provide both opportunities for our children to develop skills and knowledge to help them embed values such as teamwork, fairness and respect, and crucially to learn life skills for keeping safe such as through learning to swim (we have our own pool) and cycling, which is hugely important in Cambridgeshire.
We use the Cambridgeshire Scheme of Work to help us plan carefully for each year group.

Our sports captains say …
“Sports can help you find your confidence and you may find something that you really enjoy.”
“I think sport is great because it is healthy for you mentally and physically. It is a good way to make new friends and be competitive if you like that as well.”
“I like all sports, especially team sports like football and netball, as you can meet new people and find new talents.”
“Sports are a great way to express yourself and find something that you’re really good at and if you don’t try you never know if you will like it or not.”
